Warren Blackwell

I build systems that ship and stay running.

Over 25 years delivering production systems at scale—security platforms, connected vehicles, wireless test infrastructure. I move fast, go deep, and make teams around me more effective.

I also make music, build things with my hands, and write about whatever I'm learning. This site is where the professional and the personal live together—because for me, they've never really been separate.

I've spent my career taking on the hardest problems I can find—modernizing legacy platforms, designing foundational systems, and stepping in when architecture or delivery is under pressure. I care about clarity. I design systems with explicit contracts, well-defined interfaces, and observable behavior—because production doesn't care about your abstractions, it cares whether the thing works.

My tools are Go, Java, and C/C++, exposed through gRPC and REST APIs, deployed on Kubernetes across AWS and other cloud environments. Deep experience in security, identity, and large-scale backend services. I build platforms that are easier to reason about, test, and operate—not because they're simplistic, but because they reflect real workflows, real failure modes, and real constraints.

I'm also a musician, a maker, and a dad. I play keys and drums, build things with 3D printers, and I'm currently trying to build a fixed-wing airplane from foamboard and brushless motors. The engineering mindset shows up in everything—in how I design systems at work, in how I approach a new instrument, in how I teach my kids to measure twice before they cut.

More recently, I've been deep in AI-augmented engineering—building complete systems with AI tools, sharing methodology, and coaching teams on practical human-AI collaboration. I ran a rigorous experiment: 969 commits over 38 days, 99%+ AI-generated code under my direction. I share what I learn through brownbags, coaching, and writing.

I'm a player-coach. I lead by doing. I leave teams and systems better than I found them. And I'm genuinely fun to work with—people tell me that, and I believe them.
